Most people know that the Texas Medical Center is the renowned home of many of the nation’s top health care institutions and health care providers. What visitors to the recent Murphy’s Medical Lodging open house learned, is that Murphy’s provides equally top-notch accommodations, service, and care to patients and their families during their Texas Medical Center stays. 

The open house took place at one of our newest Medical Center locations, Domain at Kirby. Visitors were able to tour one of the luxury, fully furnished apartments and learn about what makes Murphy’s the ideal choice for patients and their families. As importantly, visitors, which included experts in patient travel from some of the Medical Center’s largest institutions, were able to discuss the most important factors to ensuring the comfort and satisfaction of patients and their families during their Medical Center visits.

Everyone agreed that for patients traveling great distances, giving them a comfort level before they even arrive is very important, and makes all of our jobs easier.  Once they arrive, being attentive and accommodating to their unique needs also goes a long way to increasing their overall satisfaction and the success of their visit.

  

Key Success Factors:

  • - Simple, clear, print and electronic materials that include photos of the accommodations, detailed maps, and lists of amenities and services. Patients want to see where they are going to be staying during what is usually a stressful and uncertain time in their lives.
  • - Personalized customer service so that patients and their families have a contact that they can rely on - and that provides staff at hospitals and physician offices a trusted partner in caring for patients. A confident and friendly face (and/or voice) can make all the difference.
  • - Location. Location. Location. Given the often-rigorous schedules of visiting patients, having accommodations close to the Medical Center is vital.
  • - Services and amenities that address patients’ most important needs such as shuttle transportation, availability of 24/7 on call, and nearby grocery stores and restaurants.
  • - Comfortable accommodations that are beautifully appointed, well maintained, spacious, and affordable can help provide a more positive experience for extended stays.

  MURPHY’S STAFF: DEDICATED TO MEETING YOUR NEEDS

 

Planning for a hospital visit can be stressful when you are nearby; planning for one from halfway across the country or world can be overwhelming.  Murphy’s Account Executive’s include a group of caring and experienced professionals who are available to assist patient care staff from hospitals and physician offices, as well as, patients and their families.  A dedicated Account Manager is assigned to every client, and can assist with every stage of the visit to Houston from planning a patient’s visit, to their arrival in Houston, to support during their stay.

 

In the planning stages, your Murphy’s Account Representative will make recommendations on where to stay based on each patient’s unique needs, check availability, address special needs and work to take care of all details in advance. Prior to arrival each guest receives an information package with instructions for locating the apartment, an apartment community site map, and contact information for Murphy’s staff.

 Upon arrival, we do everything possible to ensure a smooth check-in. A staff member will meet the patient at the apartment or in the case of a late arrival, a lock box will be left on the apartment door. Each guest is provided a welcome gift and a Murphy’s Guest book with community information and maps to make each stay comfortable and convenient.

 Guests are supported during their stay with access to their Murphy’s Account Executive and access to our 24-hour on-call service.

Edward’s Story

When Edward was diagnosed with cancer, he and his wife knew they were going to fight the cancer with everything they had. They determined quickly that they wanted to meet with an expert at MD Anderson and after doing so, committed to a treatment plan that meant staying in Houston for three months. The idea of living in a hotel room for three months, however, was not appealing. They knew the hospital visits and treatments would be tough on both of them. Luckily they were put in touch with Candice Diodati at Murphy’s, who provided them with several affordable, convenient and comfortable options all within less than a mile of MD Anderson.   OUR READERS WANTED TO KNOW

One of our readers wanted to know:  What if I have a last minute request?

ANSWER:   With 30 apartments all with in minutes of the medical center, we can often accommodate last minute requests. We also have 83 apartments in the Downtown area, each of which is within 5-7 miles of  all Medical Center institutions. While the downtown apartments do not offer shuttle service, they do provide complimentary garage parking and many are accessible to the MetroRail. One of our Account Managers can quickly determine what is available and arrange for check-in.  

 One of our readers wanted to know: Do you have special medical rates and/or monthly specials?

 ANSWER: Murphy’s offer discounted rates for patients and their families, making it a cost effective option to hotel rooms. We also have monthly specials, which can provide an even greater value.
